Vol. 51: 1 & 4
Spring/Summer/Fall/Winter 2015

The singular issue for 2015 (Vol.51: 1-4) is 100 full-color pages, celebrating the Maritime Museum's crowning achievement of the building and launch of San Salvador. The history and importance of the sixteenth-century galleon, as the first European ship to sail along the coast of California, entering San Diego Bay on September 28, 1542, is well documented in this expansive issue.

Naval Architect Douglas Sharp recounts the design and building challenges over the course of the four-year process. A twenty-two page photo essay captures the overview of the shipbuilding endeavor, replete with a tribute to the more than 400 volunteers and the sponsors and supporters, who helped make it possible.

The combined issue is designed to be a keepsake and commemorative attribution for two remarkable Journeys: Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo's discovery voyage and the Maritime Museum of San Diego's re-creation of San Salvador.
